Good Day Fellow Savagers,
On Saturday May 17th, I had my first experience in a poker run. My company," Subaru of Indiana ", held a fund raising poker run for the March of Dimes. I have got to tell you that I will be attending more of these events in the future. The weather was a bit on the down side because of some rain for the first 25 miles of the ride, ( that was not fun ), but the rest of the ride was dry. A total distance of 112 miles.
There were 87 bikes with about 135 riders. Some food and prizes, you know the usual stuff you would expect from this type of event.
All kinds of bikes too. Big Dogs', Harleys', Suzis', Hondas', Kawis', crotch rockets and cruisers alike. And I have got to say that when 87 motorcycles start up at the same time...it is absolute paradise for a motorcycle enthusiast. WAY, WAY, WAY COOL!!! We even had a police escort through the city of Lafayette. Now if that don't make you feel special, nothing will.
I also had the first chance to see how my bike would be received by other bikers, much to my pleasure it held its own. I caught more than a few hard core bikers bending down to take a closer look, even had a couple of them ask a few questions about the bike, it was really interesting to see the reactions to my Red Rooster.
If you guys and gals ever get the chance to go on one of these rides, do it!! You wont regret it. Going threw the country side with nearly 90 other bikes is most impressive.
In all, we raised about 4,000 dollars for the charity, and the company was so thrilled with the reaction of the community to our ride that they are planning another poker run for the fall. Subaru hopes to make this a bi-annual event every year from here on out.
Just had to share my story with you all.
Grace and Peace,
Rooster
